LIVER TREATS
Here is the recipe for liver brownies. These can be made with any type of liver.

Ingredients:
1 lb liver (fresh)
1 cup corn meal
1 cup flour
1/2 to 3/4 cup water
1/4 cup wheat germ
2-3 tbs garlic powder OR 1 tbs fresh chopped garlic

Process liver in food processor until pudding consistency. Combine all ingredients with liver, mixing well. Spread on a well greased jelly roll pan or cookie sheet with sides and place in preheated oven at 325 degrees F.
Bake 18-22 minutes or until mix pulls away from the side of the pan.
HINT: don't spread too thick (no more than 1 inch thick) or the center will not cook all the way.

VARIATION: Add one grated carrot and 2 tbs peanut butter.
These liver brownies can be frozen and saved too!

SHOW RING TREATS
Another liver treat that Ridgebacks love. These are great for the show ring since they fit in your pocket and are not greasy.

1 lb raw liver
3 eggs
3 tbsp blackstrap molasses
Puree in blender and add to dry mix
2-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
at least 1 tsp garlic powder
at least 1 tsp onion powder
optional extra items include wheat germ, bran, bulgar wheat, brewers yeast and parsley.

Mix all together and place in greased muffin cups (do not use papers) and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. Makes about 18 muffins. Freeze what you don't use right away and take out and thaw as needed. They last a long time in the freezer and still taste good.

DOG BIRTHDAY CAKE

13 ounce can premium dog food
1 cup flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 pound beef liver
2 eggs, separated
12 ounces low or non fat cream cheese softened

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease 9 inch round cake pan. Simmer the beef in a little water until cooked. cool and grind in a blender to a smooth, soft paste. Mix thoroughly with canned dog food. Beat the egg whites to soft peaks and fold into the liver mixture. Blend in flour and baking powder. If you overmix you will loose the benefit of the egg-white's lightness and the cake will be too flat. Pour into cakepan and bake for 35 to 45 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes our clean. Cool and frost with the soft cream cheese. Decorate with dog biscuits and serve.

PET PARTY MIX

2 cups Cheerios
2 cups Chex or Crispix
2 tsps dry gravy mix
1/2 cup imitation bacon bits
2 cups spoon-size Shredded Wheat
1/2 cup melted butter or margerine
1/2 cup grated American Cheese Powder
1 cup dog treats (Pupperoni, Jerky Treats, etc.)

Mix all ingredients into a bowl, breaking up the dog treats into bite size pieces. I would suggest that you limit the amount you serve to your canine guests. This is a big hit, but it seems to disappear quickly!
